week one - saturday post-trial - connor

[Newt absconds pretty much as soon as the trial is over, given that he doesn't have a reason to stick around. They did it, hooray, etc. Someone's still dead and there's more to follow, and he just wants to get out of there.

He's just kind of milling around on the streets of the east wing when Connor approaches.]

Oh, hey. Some trial, huh?

That felt like a crapshoot, if I'm honest. I was pretty sure the guy with the bird was the right suspect, but having to choose the right god adds a whole extra element. Did you vote for Love?

[Bluntly. He's not going to lie about his decision, regardless of whether it gets him in deep shit with his fellow participants or the gods they're competing in the name of.]

And you? For whom did you cast your vote?

[Big mood, Connor. Lying feels pointless after the fact, anyway.]

Me too. I get the feeling it was a clear majority, but I guess we might never know. And I mean, it's a bummer about everyone we're losing, but I'd prefer this to offing someone innocent.

Then again, I don't know that innocence and guilt are the right terms, but you get me.

They're not. But you're right, I understand what you mean.

[This whole system is a sham, so.]

However, I must admit that I am... concerned, that we will not be as lucky if this happens again.

Uncovering a murderer is easy. Successfully identifying who they've aligned themselves with... less so.

[Newt's not even sure the "uncovering a murderer" part is easy, but sure.]

That does add a layer of intrigue, doesn't it? On the one hand, it makes sussing out the right answer on purpose more difficult. On the other, it opens up the possibility for sabotage and voting without considering the case at hand. The odds are stacked against us in that regard.

I meant it more in the... I don't know, film noir sense. It's a complication beyond just solving a murder, which you'd think would be hard enough for a group of amateurs. But, yeah, it's also fascinating. Don't you think so?
