week one - saturday post-trial - entrapta

[Newt absconds pretty much as soon as the trial is over, given that he doesn't have a reason to stick around. They did it, hooray, etc. Someone's still dead and there's more to follow, and he just wants to get out of there.

After wandering around a bit to clear his head, he finds himself in the lab. That girl with the hair's already here, though. Entrapta? Weird name, but sure.]

So, I never asked. What's your field?

[ entrapta mostly just took note of everyone's reactions before heading back to the lab to continue her research. she's in the midst of setting up when newt, her third fave person, comes in. ]

[ emma beeps hello too. ] Well, all robotics and technology, really! And traps.

[ as he can probably guess. ]

You guys with the robotics backgrounds really got it made. I think I'm the sole biologist standing.

[ connor because he's an android, catra because she is entrapta's friend, and then newt because he is a scientist...... her priorities. ]

But biology is such an important field! Organic life is is truly fascinating.... I'd love to know what you've been working on.

Hm. Never heard of Dryl. We must not be from the same world.

[Which, go figure, is not surprising.]

Hah, thanks. My world's getting invaded by aliens, so I'm working on stopping them. That's the short version. The slightly longer version is that I'm in charge of studying them to suss out design flaws and weak spots, stuff that the Jaegers can use to take them down more easily. It's tough since they're, like, huge? One could level this whole temple in about two seconds.

Yes, I had that exact same theory. I hadn't seriously considered the idea of a multiverse until this experience --- these gods must have remarkable power to pull off such a feat! Hence being gods.

[ kind of just laughs in that crazy scientist way. newt gets it. maybe. ]

That is all fascinating. [ she prompts emma to use the voice recorder!!! ] Tell me everything. What is a Jaeger? What are the biological and chemical properties of these aliens?

[ i'm sorry you have to explain pacific rim. ]

[He. Well. He gets some of it??? Also Entrapta omfg.]

Oh, uh... The aliens are called Kaiju.

[He rolls up his sleeves to show her his tattoos.]

Turns out they've been handcrafted by this other alien race, the Precursors? The Precursors are sending them through an interdimensional portal that pops them out in on of our oceans. They're trying to destroy humanity so the Precursors can harvest our planet for resources.

[He is rather chill while relaying these details.]

So far, we've managed to hold out against them, but I'm pretty sure we're about to get swarmed. The Jaeger Program—oh, uh, Jaegers are these giant robots designed to fight Kaiju, but the program was discontinued and most of the Jaegers have been destroyed. They're not gonna be able to defend us against the onslaught that's coming.

[i brought it upon myself by playing this idiot, so.]

[ sweet tats!! very scientific. she admires them with some 'ooohs' and 'aahhhs' ]

I've never heard of such beings! I would love to get to study them.... perhaps after all this is said and done, we'll be able to travel freely through dimensions.

[ just kind of giggles to herself before realizing --- oh wait, that's bad. don't judge, newt!!!! ]

That could be catastrophic. Do you have no other means of defense against them?

Huh. I suppose that'd be possible, given that we're dealing with gods.

[It would also be obscenely cool?

He looks up at the giggle, eye narrowing, though it's more out of curiosity than offense. The corner of his mouth ticks up.]

Yeah, it'll be bad if we don't stop them soon. We're working on a plan to collapse the Breach entirely, but given that it's well beyond our scientific understanding, figuring out how to break into it has been an uphill battle.

[hairckervoice]

And we've all been removed from our respective dimensions. Therefore, there must be a way to travel back and forth.

[ thanks for understanding newt.... she just gets excited. ]

How close are you able to study it?

Oh, yeah, interdimensional travel is totally a thing. That's what the Breach is. We're leagues off from understanding that phenomenon enough to recreate it, though.

[So, yeah, god powers is their best bet.]

The Breach? Uh, not very. It's in Challenger Deep, which is the deepest point in any of my planet's oceans. Pretty hard to get to. We've set up instrumentation down there to collect data, but science for the sake of defense and science for the sake of curiosity are two very different things.

Well! Even without the wishes, with your intellect.... I'm sure such a thing is possible.

[ hmmm. ]

Yes, I can see how that would be challenging. Do you have runestones? Or people with elemental capacities? I know of a princess who can breathe underwater and control it.

We don't have anything like that, no. Just normal humans, and even if we could use magic to breathe underwater and stuff, diving to that depth would definitely kill you. We do have the technology to get down there, but even that's pretty limiting.
