week four - thursday night - luna - death-adjacent log

[Newt knows he got lucky with Hector. Ruin's going to be the real challenge, especially given that he doesn't truly know what he's up against. But he's confident in his plan, the first phase of which went over even better than anticipated, and the people here are stupider than he thought. Some part of him knows he shouldn't get cocky, but... It's almost impossible not to be.

His plan for Ruin's death hasn't taken nearly as much time to set up as Hector's, so it's still early in the night when he heads for the altar room, offering in hand, ready to lure Ruin into his trap. All he has to do now is beat her back to the pool, but that shouldn't—]

Oh. Uh, hi.

[Luna... isn't the last person he expected to see up and about during curfew. It makes sense, actually. He's had a gut feeling about her since the beginning.

That said.]

You're not here for me, are you?

There is no justice in the loss of life; but sometimes you may have to weed the field, when a sickness takes hold of the harvest. Of course we are doing someone a favor. [her smile curls at a corner] But the most important thing is survival, and I intend to do this with a purpose in mind, rather than blindly following the current.

[The deaths are indeed temporary. And that's both a boon and something that isn't entirely relevant to her. She's been twisted for a long, long time, and none of this is new to her. Like the passing of the days or putting one foot in front of the other: death is simply the path on which she treads.

It is the face that she refuses to look into.

Lives are spent flowers she plucks along the way. They hardly change the scenery, but they are enough.]

As for Ruin, I intend to make it quick -- once her neck is broken, the true work goes into the crime scene itself. Misdirection. Connor is too well-informed and astute in trials; I also intend to remove him from the equation. Confusion. Ai Mizuno will tie things together, even if neither of us is truly connected with Fortune's fall. Chaos.

They could not even come close to the god killer last week. We could do well to learn from it.
